Current status: On 14 February Dix-Sept arrived in her temporary home port of Stuart, Florida. We're at Sunset Bay Marina and have completed 4,400 nautical miles. Capt. Paul lives in Palm City, the town adjacent to Stuart and keeps his boat on the same dock that Dix-Sept is on! Small world... Several other Nordhavn vessels are also on C dock at Sunset Bay. For Dix-Sept, the journey is not over. In April, Grant Jonsson plans on leaving for the next major voyage, moving the vessel up the east coast, down the St. Lawrence Seaway and traveling all the way to Lake Superior by summer's end!

This website chronicles the voyage of a Nordhavn 55 trawler, hull number 17, appropriately named Dix Sept (17 in French), on its voyage from Dana Point, California to Stuart, Florida, owned by Grant and Nancy Jonsson of Hudson, WI. At the helm for the beginning of this "delivery" and "training" (for Grant) journey through the Panama Canal are Capt. Dan McGonagle, Capt. Paul Shirley, and Capt. Wes Lemler - all instructors and/or former valedictorian graduates of the popular Professional Mariner Training (PMT) program at the Charles F. Chapman School of Seamanship in Stuart, FL. Capt. Dan led the team through the Panama Canal and then returned to meet other commitments. Capt. Paul then led the journey from the canal to Stuart, FL with Capt. Wes and Paul's friend Mel (also from Palm City).

We stopped in Acapulco 15-17 January, were in Balboa, Panama from 26-30 January, transited the canal on 31 January, docked at Shelter Bay Marina in Crystobal, Panama 1-5 February, docked at Galleon Marina in Key West, FL on 12 February (clearing US Customs), and finally arrived at Sunset Bay Marina in Stuart, FL on 14 February. This marathon almost non-stop run (transit clearance delays and weather delays) was 4,400 nautical miles long (5,063 statute miles) over 38 days!
